As a woman who has never liked to dress "normal" I have experimented with styles of outer wear. A couple years ago, my sister-in-law decided that I needed to be more current and gave me a cloak like your favorite. It was labeled as a wrap and apparently was all the rage for that year's winter fashion cycle. It is as you mentioned versitile. I often wear it simply draped over my shoulders and open at the front, but when I'm feeling the urge to dress more "meat & mead" to chase away the winter blues, it gets belted or clapsed using my brass blanket pin.

In Darby O’Gill and the Good People by Herminie Kavenagh, there’s a description of a beggar asking for loving and the obligation of giving it to him. Another female beggar apparently couldn’t find a place and had to stay in a hedge wrapped up in her cloak. A third beggar stayed at a haunted mill and was murdered. These are set around the late 1800’s

Utah has its forests and grass, not Eastern Woodlands, but beautiful in their own right. The added access to much more diverse landscapes will, as you've seen, provide as yet unforeseen possibilities. Good to hear you "like guns", as you may (or not) find yourself in a more 2A centric environment. Best of luck, and our paths are getting closer to possibly crossing one day.

Firearms didn't make armour obsolete. Spanish tercios, Swiss pikemen and Landskenetteddydoos would still wear a metal cuirass for the torso, a helmet, and padding on the rest of the body. Pikes and rapiers/sabers were still relevant enough until the 19th century to warrant wearing some armour.

Medieval battles in Hollywood: perfect formations advance on each other until it turns into a tavern brawl, with people spinning around to kill enemies behind them with their giant swords. Medieval battles in real-life: both armies stay in formation forever, 1 meter apart, trying to poke with spears around the opponents' shields, while shouting slurs.

That didn't exsit till the late 1800s ...that's 1800s not the 800s. Lmao, if ur in DnD that's fine I guess .but I've done ( historical) reenactment for over 35 year and strive to b as historical accurate as possible... ..soooo Deadpool in fairy wings. I have seen parkour videos and thought, "I would never be able to do that." This video, however, made me realize I already know how and used to regularly do parkour. All the tree climbing, fence crossing, and volleyball -- but especially the fence crossing -- I used to do trained me in the basic landing. I guess I need to get back to those activities.

i don't think you're wrong in general. but a thicker mantle cloak quickly becomes a comfy sleeping bag and with 2 clasps you could attach it to the clothing layer beneath on both shoulders (or on top of a backpack) eleviating some of its drawbacks. in addition it's able to keep warmth inside and catch even only slight breezes to cool its wearer, which is something i used my thin woolen mantle cloak for, i was able to comfortably wear the same outfit in dry hot summers with over 35°C and in snowy winters with under 0°C. and tbh it can be sown easily, fold a rectangle in half, sew it together at one end, done. depending how you wear it and how sturdy seem and cloak material are, the hood can be used as kindof a backsack for groceries. to counter billowing you could add some light weights to its bottom, which can make it into a viable defensive tool similar but inferior to a net. and/or wearing it over everything would keep it away from the presumeably wet or dusty ground and leafs, makes it quick to disrobe to not hinder in combat and after it got damp can be dried while traveling without becoming too uncomfortable. but i'd agree gandalfs long ruana style cloak still would be superior in colder climates/environments.

long before tobacco came to europe some form of cannabis has been around eurasia and africa, and as similar to flax only the stems were used for fibres (ropes and even cloth) it is plausible that its smoke's calming and appetite increasing effects could have been used in some capacity, especially as its medicinal use has been documented. smoking in fantasy is basically always shown in a social setting. addictions are depicted in fantasy, but strangely their smoking, even for regular smokers, basically never leads to withdrawl symptoms nor addiction. as such i'd theorize they actually smoke cannabis (and with that i don't mean the strong stuff humanity cultivated for easier smuggling). adventuring is stressful, being able to stuff your pipe with weed when you actually can, or could, relax without having to worry about your supply for when you're on the road for several days or are suddenly cut off from society for unknown time periods, makes sense. the hobbits, known for their relaxed lifestyle and huge appetite, smoking weed, known for giving people the munchies, makes more sense than them smoking tobacco, known to decrease appetite. and in that light it becomes way more plausible that bilbo and the other adventuring hobbits could quickly adapt to fewer and smaller meals.
